I realise that as people had left
I curled closer to myself and towards Earth
I wanted to feel her hum and nurture
I wanted to return
But now the sun shines undeniably
It creeps in between my arms and my body
Even my shut lids glow orange
Like my eyes want to see but I am refusing to open
Trying to cling to the darkness
The tingle fluttering through my bones
Is telling me to stand and my lungs to float
And for a moment there is a chill
But soon the warmth is golden
As my toes begin to feel and fingertips reprint
The ground moistens and seedlings grow
And above the treetops stretch over
Shielding the foreboding heat
Oh, sudden - it is cooler
A path beneath leads my feet to a vast savannah
And before me sit curled bodies dotted to the horizon
A million heads buried in knees and drying
I stand back hiding, waiting for the new sun rising
